A friend at work had to leave early because everyone in her family who could potentially watch her kids for her had (a) an emergency call-in at a job, (b) car trouble stranding them on a very-infrequently-used back road, and (c) sudden illness. She had to cancel the hair appointment she's been planning on for weeks (a cut--short and spiky--and color--blue!) and early Valentines plans for later this evening (the babysitter she hired for tonight got food poisoning).
All small things, minor. Nothing life-changing. No plane crashes or freak accidents or deaths in the family. But still very annoying.
I made the remark to her, "Well, today has turned out to be your lucky day."
She said, "Who knows? Maybe it has!"
Maybe her hair would have turned out horrible. Maybe she would have been in an accident on the way there. Maybe if the sickness hadn't manifested itself yet her kids might have caught germs and gotten sick. Maybe when they go in to fix to the car trouble they'll discover something that could have been life-threatening and be able to change it on time.
Good luck, bad luck. It's perspective, really, and we see only portions of the picture.
Happy Friday the 13th, and here's wishing you love tomorrow and all the time.
